Herbal Remedies

The Chinese people has rich experience of using natural herbs to fight disease with a long history over few thousands years! The modern Western drugs cannot replace the herbs and it never will because the herbs often can cure those patients whom have been treated with Western medicine but failed to get any result, sometimes become even worse than before. In China, all leading hospitals uses both Western and Chinese integrated medicine having very good results; especially so for treating cancers. Chinese herbal medicine can increase survival when possible and improve quality of life. All herbs are assorted into groups based on the natural nature of these herbs; for example, herbs may have warming nature (Yang natured) and other herbs may have cooling effect (Yin natured); herbs also have different tastes like sweat, bitter, sour, salty or pungent. Some herbs help to increase Qi and some may increase the blood. Again, some herbs can improve the body circulation and some can slowdown and stop bleeding. Anyway, the Chinese herbs are used based on these natures rather than based on the chemical contents as they are used in the West. Now, single herb is used by the homeopathic and naturopathic practitioners. Chinese has long passed this stage; combinations of herbs have been used as so-called herbal formulas which are more complicated but much more effective, and balanced, serving multi-purposes. Chinese have researched and developed thousands herbal formulas over the years. These formulas have been well-developed, time and clinicaly tested in the span of centuries of time.

A TCM doctor should be able to utilize some basic formulas with minor modification to treat his/her patient. Dr. Peter Yea has over 30 years experience using Chinese herbs. His formula usually is a combination of 10 – 12 herbs. A good herbalist should try to avoid of using too many herbs in one formula. Always remember that simple is better. Of course, for difficult cases, more herbs will be used.

There are ready-made Chinese herbal medicine in the tablet or capsul forms available in the Chinese herbal stores; these so-named as patent-medicine are usually made with well established formulas. However, patients should not buy and take them without consulting an experience TCM doctor.
