Acupuncture: Tiny needle produces great healing power.
What is acupuncture and how does it works?
Acupuncture originated 5,000 wars ago in
TCM acupuncture is not the same as “Medical Acupuncture” or “Anatomical Acupuncture” which are usually performed by medical doctors (M.D.), physiotherapists, chiropractors or naturopathic doctors as an adjunct service for pain management. A TCM acupuncturist is required to study and receive training in 1CM for at least 4 to 5 pars. Training received from short weekend courses does not qualify one to become a 1CM acupuncturist. According to 1CM, there is an energy network within and covering the whole body. The internal organs are linked to our body surface; therefore, by inserting fine and tiny needles, on the surface, one can manipulate the energy so to restore the balance of Qi (the body vital energy) that runs in the energy channels called Meridians’.
Each organ has a particular meridian connecting itself to a certain part of the body on the outside. For example, the “Lung Meridian (LU)’ links hand along the arm to the lung.
There are 12 regular meridians and 8 special meridians together forming the meridian system.
There are 361 commonly used points on the body for inserting needles, these points are called “Acupuncture points”. But for each treatment, only a few points are carefully selected and used based on the nature of diseases after diagnosis.
Generally speaking, patient feels very little discomfort during acupuncture treatment as needles are very thin and fine.
How frequent does a patient has to receive treatment?
For patients with acute conditions only 3-5 treatments are needed; however, for some patients with chronic conditions, a series of 10-12 consecutive treatments as one treatment period is often required.
And for more serious cases taking 2-3 treatment periods is not unusual.
Are the acupuncture needles sterilized?
All acupuncture needles are new and for one-time use only: they are individually packaged, sterilized and remained sealed until the time of use. (Used needles are immediately disposed after each treatment)
Does acupuncture really work?
Acupuncture is very safe and effective if treatment is carried out by a qualified and experienced acupuncturist. Nothing can replace experience which always adds more value. The World Health Organization of the United Nations has listed 48 different conditions for which it considers acupuncture appropriate (quoted from a medical book).
